Zen5 late: summer launch with new chipsets!

In a previous article, we told you that Zen5 could see the light of day in April, but now some bad news has surfaced. As ever, Moore’s Law is Dead is always at the forefront of sharing the latest industry rumors, and today’s is… Not great. Indeed, it indicates that AMD’s architecture is behind schedule. Nevertheless, new chipsets are on the way!

Zen5: delayed until summer? New chipsets on the way?

AMD Zen5

On the processor side, unfortunately, the videographer points out that the architecture has suffered some setbacks. Unfortunately, AMD’s difficulties mean that this generation may not see the light of day before the summer of 2024. However, the good news is that the wait for X3D CPUs shouldn’t be too long, and the same goes for processors with Zen5C cores.

AMD’s original plan was to launch this new generation of CPUs quickly, to get a comfortable lead over Intel. In fact, we might even have seen new processors launched without new chipsets… Well, not at first.

In any case, this generation will arrive with new chipsets, with the X870E, X870, B850 and B840… At least, that’s what the rumors currently suggest.

With the X870E, we’ll be treated to a duo of Promotory21 chips and an ASM4242 USB4 controller. The latter works in the same way as the X670E, by the way. As for the X870, it will be stripped of PCIe lines, and will even feature a single chip. The B850 will have a single Promotory21 chip, but will also retain PCIe 5.0 compatibility. Finally, the brand-new B840 will benefit from a less high-end Promotory 19 with more limited features.
