Windows 11 Build 22509: lots of new options

0

Microsoft today announced the release of Windows11 Build 22509 to its Insiders network. This update includes new layout options for the Start menu, an improved Edge + Narrator experience and several bug fixes. Here are all the details below:

CHANGES AND IMPROVEMENTS

  • Starting with this release, you can right-click on Start to quickly access the Start settings and choose the “More Pins” or “More Recommendations” layout option to display an additional row of pins or recommendations, respectively.
Vous pouvez maintenant configurer Démarrer pour afficher plus d'épingles ou plus de recommandations en fonction de vos préférences.
  • When a secondary monitor is connected, your clock and date will now also be displayed on the taskbars of the secondary monitor(s) for better visibility. [We’re just starting to roll out this change, so it’s not yet available to all Insiders as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before releasing it to everyone]
  • For apps that send notifications for calls, reminders or alarms that leverage Windows Notifications in the OS, 3 high priority notifications will now be displayed as stacked and shown at the same time. This means that at any given time, you can see up to 4 notifications at the same time – 3 high priority notifications and one normal priority notification. [We’re just starting to roll out this change, so it’s not yet available to all insiders as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before releasing it to everyone]
  • As part of our ongoing efforts to move the Control Panel settings into the Settings application :
    • We moved the advanced sharing settings (such as network discovery, file and printer sharing, and public folder sharing) to a new page in the Settings app under Advanced Network Settings.
    • We’ve made some updates to the device-specific pages under Printers and Scanners in Settings to show more information about your printer or scanner directly in the settings when available.
    • Some of the entry points for network and device settings in the Control Panel will now redirect to the corresponding pages in Settings.
  • Added a new option to the Installed Applications page in Settings to sort the list from Name (Z to A), and as a result, updated the previous “Alphabetically” option to be called Name (A to Z).
  • We will now remember if you activate Bluetooth or Wi-Fi in airplane mode. The next time you use airplane mode, the radios will reflect your preferences and stay on to make it easier for you to keep listening to the headphones and stay connected while traveling.
  • Windows Sandbox now supports restarting inside its virtualized environment (for example, if you were to click the Restart option under the power button in Start).

Fixes

[Taskbar]

  • The Start, Search, Task View, Widgets and Chat icons in the taskbar should no longer be unexpectedly large when the system scaling is set to 125%.
  • Pressing the Windows plus key (the number corresponding to the position of an application’s icon in the taskbar) should now scroll through the application’s windows if you press the number repeatedly instead of stopping at the last window.
  • When the Narrator’s focus is set to the Task View button and the Desktops drop-down icon appears, the Narrator will now inform you about the Desktops information.
  • Fixed an explorer.exe crash that some Insiders were experiencing on recent flights related to updating badges in the taskbar.

[Enter]

  • Handwriting should work again now when the language is set to Chinese.
  • Mitigated a mouse-related problem that sometimes caused some insiders to check for bugs during hibernation on recent flights (making it look like the computer has restarted).
  • Updated Chinese simplified IME candidates to be centrally aligned with the height of the candidate window has been customized.
  • Fixed touch keyboard invocation in PowerShell, so it should work now.

[Window]

  • Hovering your mouse from one desktop to another in the task view will no longer cause the displayed thumbnails and content area to shrink unexpectedly.
  • CompactOverlay should work again in this version (i.e. the option that some applications use to create a small, always visible window).
  • Fixed a concurrency condition that sometimes caused explorer.exe to crash when closing a group of snapshots of 3 or more windows in the task view.
  • Removed the unexpected tilt animation when clicking a corner of the New Desktop button.
  • An adjustment has been made to resolve an underlying issue that caused the context menu to animate up to the mouse instead of away from the mouse when right-clicking on a desktop in Task View.
  • Fixed a high-impact DWM crash in recent flights.

[Settings]

  • Fixed some overlapping text for some languages on the Installed Applications page in Settings.
  • Clicking the Uninstall button when using the Installed Applications page in grid view will now display a confirmation dialog.
  • Changed the new ms-settings:installed-apps URI to ms-settings:appsfeatures, to handle scenarios where existing links are expected to lead to the list of installed applications, for example, when selecting the Application Settings option after right-clicking a UWP application in Start.

[Other]

  • Fixed an issue that caused some insiders to see error 0x8007001f when attempting to upgrade to recent versions of the development channel.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some PCs from installing new versions or other updates with an error code of 0x80070002.
  • Fixed an issue causing some devices to roll back with error code 0xc1900101-0x4001c when installing new releases.
  • Did some work to help resolve an issue causing the Wi-Fi connection to be lost after exiting sleep mode.

NOTE: Some of the fixes noted here in the Insider Preview releases of the active development branch may be found in the maintenance updates for the released version of Windows 11 that became generally available on October 5.

KNOWN ISSUES

[General]

  • Users upgrading from 22000.xxx or earlier versions to newer development channel versions using the latest development channel ISO may receive the following warning message: The version you are trying to install is signed by theft. To continue the installation, enable the theft signature. If you receive this message, press the Activate button, restart the PC and try the update again.

[Start]

  • In some cases, you may not be able to enter text when using the search from the top or the taskbar. If you encounter the problem, press WIN + R on the keyboard to launch the Run dialog box, then close it.

[Taskbar]

  • The taskbar will sometimes blink when changing the input method.

[Search]

  • After clicking the Search icon on the taskbar, the Search panel may not open. If this happens, restart the “Windows Explorer” process and open the Search panel again.
