Normally, October 2025 would mark the end of support for Windows 10. However, after considerable feedback from users, the Redmond-based company has decided to change its strategy, instead moving back the end of support for its OS by one year. The new end of support is scheduled for October 2026. However, this postponement is not without conditions!
Windows 10: a one-year reprieve, but not without conditions!
Having to change OS is a pain: either you switch to a clean installation, but have to completely reinstall the system, or you update it from an already well-sanded and not necessarily very clean base. The result can be unexpected behavior… Or even unsupported components, notably due to the new security requirements of Windows 11. In any case, if you’re still on W10, you can take advantage of an extra year’s security update, free of charge. The main condition is to activate One Drive cloud backup. Basically, your system settings and system files will be synchronized in the cloud. However, by default, the free One Drive subscription provides 5 GB of space, which may not be enough. Of course, you’ll have other options to choose from, and from July onwards, the company will be rolling out a utility enabling users to choose the most suitable option to take advantage of an extra year’s support. You’ll be able to choose between cloud synchronization, using 1,000 Microsoft points or paying around thirty dollars. At the same time, we learn that for professionals, the situation is different, as a paid solution will be offered. The price? $60/PC for one year. The aim, of course, is to ensure a smooth transition to Windows 11. And we know that when it comes to changing habits, we tend to be a bit grumpy!
