Right now, there’s a mini-computer project up on Kickstarter. Called Wee Beastie, it promises to house an RTX 4070 and a Core Ultra 7 in a mini-case measuring just 4.75l. The latter is actually quite cute, with its aquarium-like look inspired by more traditional mid-tower cases. In short, a promising project, but there’s a “but”.
Wee Beastie: a mini PC with an underpowered RTX 4070?
Broadly speaking, the aim here is to offer a PC weighing just 4.75l, but equipped with high-performance components. To this end, they’re featuring a Core Ultra 7 155H paired with a 12GB RTX 4070. While the card isn’t the latest generation, it still offers a satisfactory level of gaming performance. It’s enough to play comfortably at 1080p and 1440p. Finally, the rest of the machine boasts a memory capacity of 128 GB, while the storage section promises a maximum of 16 TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD.
The RAM and SSD are not soldered to the motherboard, so this section is easily upgradable, but the snag concerns the system’s power supply, which is rated at 400W. Officially, however, a 550W power supply is recommended for the RTX 4070. We can legitimately assume that optimizations have been made in terms of frequencies and power consumption to accommodate such a GPU on a power supply of this caliber.
In any case, the cooling aspect has not been neglected, as the brand claims to have installed 13 fans inside its machine. Fans of lightning will also appreciate the RGB part, which will enable them to transform their PC into a discotheque.
Despite everything, marketing highlights performance in the AI sector, with the 466 TOPS offered by the graphics card. Remember that Microsoft requires an NPU of 40 TOPS to obtain Copilot+ certification… We’re well on the way there. Finally, we’d like to mention the support for 6 screens and the presence of WiFi7.
As far as the project is concerned, we’d like to point out that its financing is now complete. It raised €47,136, whereas only €2,192 was requested.
