Western Digital has just announced a new hard disk capable of very high performances. Indeed, it is about a model of 20Tb whose transfer rates are comparable to a SATA SSD. It is in any case what promises the Ultrastar HS760 of the mark.
Ultrastar HS760: as fast as a SATA SSD!
In the program, the brand offers us a large hard disk in 3.5″ with a very large capacity. This model has 9 platters of 2.2Tb each for a total of about 20Tb! In terms of speed, we have something quite classic with a disk operating at 7200 rpm. Also, the filling is done with helium and we have a SAS interface.
However, it stands out thanks to its high transfer speeds for a hard disk. The brand indicates that the performance of its HDD are doubled compared to the HC560. In the broad lines, we should have a flow in sequential reading typing in the 580 Mo/s against 550 Mo/s in sequential writing. Such speeds are made possible thanks to the use of a second actuator arm. This allows us to process data in parallel.
Nevertheless, this HS760 does not have only advantages in terms of performance. Compared to the HC560, it is also 1.7x faster in terms of access times, but also 37% more efficient.
In short, it offers a breath of fresh air in the sector of hard disks ?
