Thermalright has announced a new power supply that aims to be very high-end. Indeed, the TR-AT1650 is aimed at the premium segment, with its high power and excellent efficiency. Beyond that, we can expect exemplary build quality, with Japanese capacitors in particular.
TR-AT1650: 80+ Titanium and big power!
This power supply features a large block with a 180 mm deep casing. Depending on the case, it won’t fit everywhere, and we’re obviously thinking of Geometric Future’s Model 5, whose power supply compartment is limited in size. However, the finish is meticulous, with an elaborate grille and a gold Thermalright insert.
The electrical part uses high-quality components, with 100% Japanese capacitors from Nichicon, Rubycon and Guym. The block adopts a reasonable LLC-type platform with a DC-to-DC converter. Protection features include OVP, UVP, OPP, SCP, OTP, NLO and SIP. And, of course, it complies with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards.
We can, of course, count on fully modular cable management with an embossed finish. This imitates the texture of sheathed cables, strand by strand. Otherwise, Thermalright specifies that its cables are 16 AWG.
As far as ventilation is concerned, a 135 mm mill cools the power supply’s components. This adopts a semi-passive operating mode of up to 50%.
Naturally, we’re surprised by the retail price, which is only $245. Let’s not forget that we’re dealing with one of the rare 80+ Titanium blocks, and the price is just insane. By way of comparison, a Corsair AX1600i block costs over €500, while the MSI MEG AI1600T is more like €600!
