And the last one to date concerns the future prices of Intel GPUs.
Any idea about Intel GPU prices? Really?
For a few hours, the “news” has been circulating about the future prices of Intel GPUs. This brief originates from a daring article by TomsHardware that by analyzing the terms of the contest launched by Intel ( Xe HPG scavenger hunt ). The author’s premise here is to read the terms of the contest in small paragraphs (which value the prizes of the winners) to determine the price of future cards. Starting from the value of the bundle we come to the conclusion that the GPUs could be worth 825 USD and 650 USD for the Premium and Performance models respectively. A monthly subscription to Game Pass PC costs about 10 USD, which means 60 USD for 6 months… We add a pinch of $ for the Intel merchandise that will be delivered with the GPUs, like the Arc T-shirt that was sent to the press recently.
So it’s a bit of a buzz, but it doesn’t make any sense. First of all because the merch delivered is not detailed by Intel. That the version of the card that will be delivered is not described at all (and for good reason). It is thus totally possible to compose all the variants to go up to 900$ by assigning arbitrary prices to merchandising in limited series or to a card with a specific color for example.
Too early, too light
More seriously, all our current information on Intel GPUs is very controlled and at no time has a notion of price been mentioned. Intel (like all tech giants) can very well decide to “buy” market shares by lowering significantly the price of its GPU at launch. As it can also take advantage of the crisis to charge a possible availability in front of the competition in perpetual break. Finally, when we get closer to launch, what will be the state of the competition? Prices and ranges, a potential RTX 30 Super series…In short, too early to have even an idea. The leaks on GPU performance are already to be taken with very large pinches…Those on prices are just to be ignored.
