The Threadripper Pro 7985WX processor has been benchmarked on Geekbench 6, with interesting scores as it outperforms the competition and the previous generation of CPUs.

Threadripper Pro 7985WX: 64 cores at top level!

As a reminder, with its 7985WX AMD continues to offer a 64c/128t CPU, despite the fact that it has a higher operating frequency than its predecessors. The latter benefits from improved operating frequencies compared with the 5995WX, which shares the same number of cores. This translates into base frequencies of 3.2 GHz, boosted to 5.1 GHz. However, this increase in frequency comes at the expense of TDP , which rises from 280W to 350W.

Of course, this generation’s new features include PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 compatibility… As well as Zen4 cores, greatly improved over those of the previous generation.

So it’s only logical to see this new model running on anything that moves. As a result, the 5995WX is outperformed by 27.8% in single-core and 23.3% in multi-core. Against the Xeon Platinum 8490H (60c/120t 3.5 GHz @boost), the gaps are truly violent. The new Threadripper scores 41.1% higher in single-core and 51.9% in multi-core. At the same time, going from 16,308 pts to 24,780 pts, yes, that’s got to hurt!

Now, please note that these scores only reflect CPU performance in a very specific case. We’ll have to wait until November 21 for the release of the official reviews, which will give us a precise indication of the capabilities of this type of hardware. But in any case, we expect Intel to be left behind on this generation.
