The creator of Sound Blaster has passed away

Here is a sad piece of information that takes us back in time a little. A long time ago when a sound card was essential to give a little bit of sound life to your PC. It was a little before the year 2000 and we have to admit that the motherboards of the time offered a lot less features than today. During this period, the card you had to have was a Sound Blaster. The inventor of this legendary card family was the Singaporean Sin Wong Hoo, who founded Creative Technology in 1981 and who passed away in the last hours at the age of 67.

Décès du père de Sound Blaster

The peak of the Sound Blaster card was at the end of 1989. The success of this card was so meteoric that in less than a year it became the best-selling PC expansion card in the world.

A visionary, inventor and entrepreneur who gave a voice to the PC world

Creative Labs is no longer the company it used to be, but it continues to make its way in the PC audio business. Its current interim CEO has officially confirmed the death of its founder with this statement:

I have known and worked with Mr. Sim for over 30 years. This is a sudden and sad event and we feel a great loss, especially since Mr. Sim and I recently had extensive discussions about the future direction of the company. During these talks, Mr. Sim was full of innovative vision. He even had a long conversation with the engineering team last night and was scheduled to meet with the online sales team the next day. The best thing we can do now is to ensure the smooth running of Creative’s management, and also to execute and bring to life the vision and strategy that Mr. Sim had for the company.

For those of you who want to go back in time, here’s a little video that will probably bring back some memories.
