Broadly speaking, if you are a graphics card manufacturer, integrating HDMI ports into your graphics card does not cost much. During a visit by Gamers Nexus to one of their factories, Sparkle indicated that the price per port was around $1. More if additional protection components need to be installed.
According to Sparkle, integrating an HDMI port into a graphics card costs only $1!
Gamers Nexus recently visited a factory in Taiwan that manufactures Intel Arc graphics cards. During their visit, a company employee revealed that integrating an HDMI port into a card represents a negligible cost. In fact, it costs $1 to install a connector, and most of that $1 is accounted for by licensing fees. That’s because HDMI is a brand name, and licensing fees are charged for using their connectors. In addition, depending on the standard implemented, additional protection components may be integrated into the card, which increases the cost from $1 to $3. Thus, the cost of integrating four HDMI ports on an Arc 3 comes to $4 at Sparkle, while Display Port is even cheaper. At the same time, there are no licensing fees to pay.
Shipping costs: $20 per card for airmail!
Another interesting point raised by the brand is shipping costs. As a private individual, when you sell an item, you have to think about shipping costs and the shipping method. It’s the same for a company, but with much larger volumes.
Sparkle prefers to ship its equipment by air, which the company considers faster than by sea. In fact, expect to pay around $20 per card compared to $5 to $7. On the other hand, this additional cost is linked to the speed of transport, as it only takes two to three days for an order to arrive in the United States, compared to around a month by boat. It also offers greater flexibility, allowing for quicker adaptation to supply and demand constraints rather than having a month-long lag in between.
