This is another of Nvidia’s secret tricks that won’t make life easier for customers. The greens seem to have planned the launch of “new” RTX 3060 & RTX 3060Ti GDDR6X cards for late October. While we are all waiting for the arrival of RTX 40, the reason for this rework would simply be to occupy the field because its new range will be launched only with high-end references. Both 3060 and 3060Ti would have identical specifications to the current models except for the memory which would switch to GDDR6x. The subtlety could lie in the RTX 3060Ti which would go from 12GB to 8GB allowing perhaps a more aggressive positioning. According to rumors, the RTX 3070 Ti would also be affected by these changes with possibly a modification of the GPU to clean up the stock of high-end chips. This strategy of “against” that we know well at Nvidia would be clearly intended to soap the board to Intel which should (finally) arrive with A770, A750 and A580 capable of competing with the 3060 series.

Obviously, nothing is definite on the subject yet and we have seen how Nvidia can change its roadmap according to the opportunities and performance of the competition. However, this year, the greens have to deal with a considerable stock of GPUs but also of cards from its partners. A situation that makes relations with brands complex, while the chameleon brand asks its partners to commit strongly to the launch of RTX 40. Among the latter, some seem willing to play on the competition AMD (see Intel) to put pressure on Nvidia.
