Samsung has announced a new SSD gem with the 9100. What’s special about this model? Apart from its PCIe 5.0 interface? A crazy capacity for a mass-market SSD: 8TB! This is a first for Samsung. And given the price of 4TB models, the price of this 8TB version looks particularly high!
Samsung 9100: the brand’s first 8TB client SSD!
In broad terms, with this new generation, Samsung is announcing new SSDs in M.2 format, which should offer high performance thanks to their PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. The announced figures point to sequential read speeds of 14.8 GB and sequential write speeds of 13.4 GB/s. As for random performance, we’re talking about 2,200,000 IOPS for reading and 2,600,000 IOPS for writing.
Of course, the components used internally are not yet known. For the time being, all we know is that the capacities on offer are 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and a massive 8TB model. In addition, there is an 8.8 mm heatsink for the 1 to 4 TB models. On the 9TB version, the heatsink will be larger: 11.25 mm.
At present, via ITHome, we know the retail prices, which are :
- ~€165 for 1TB
- ~€281 for 2TB
- ~€581 for 4TB
Unfortunately, the price of the 8TB model is not yet known, nor is it yet available for purchase. For that, you’ll have to wait until the second half of this year. For some others, maybe a bit less, the Indian branch of the Samsung website has announced a launch date of March 18!
