The last stand of the AM4 is called Ryzen 7 5800X3D. A CPU which we could see that it is there to tackle Intel, mainly in games and make fans of the brand temporize. The other side of the coin is that unlike all its big brothers, this 5800X3D does not really like overclocking. The fault of its cache… Well, that’s what we thought until now.

AMD CES 2022 The general heating is undoubtedly the weak point of this processor. However, this did not discourage a number of overclocking enthusiasts from putting the latest Red to the test. And despite the official notice, this CPU can go up in the towers! We were first able to see the Ryzen 7 5800X3D running at 4.74 GHz at Massman (the default maximum frequency is 4.5 GHz), equipped with a “simple” custom liquid cooling from EKWB and an ASUS Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard. The benefit goes to the latter and its advanced voltage management features.

But TSAIK, the official overclocker of Team MSI went further with more extreme solutions. He managed to push his CPU to 5.14178 GHz on a home made board (a MSI MEG X570 Godlike with a home made BIOS).

This is not the objective of this processor and it is certainly not a path to explore if you want to enjoy it for a while…
