A new processor joins the AMD catalog: the Ryzen 5 5600F. This new model is intended for the AM4 platform, which was launched somewhere in 2017! With this new model, the brand offers a CPU using a configuration similar to that of a Ryzen 5 5600, but with lower frequencies.
Ryzen 5 5600F: a final (small) addition to the AM4 socket!
With this new CPU, AMD offers a new reference based on the Zen 3 architecture. It’s a Vermeer silicon processor with a configuration similar to that of a Ryzen 5 5600. However, the main difference with the aforementioned model is that it benefits from lower frequencies, with a base frequency of 3 GHz and a turbo reaching 4 GHz. Compared with the 5600, this represents a drop of 300 and 400 MHz respectively.
In fact, AMD continues to keep its AM4 platform artificially alive with sporadic processor launches. However, the most attractive models for gamers, such as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 7 5700X3D, have been discontinued. Despite this, AM4 motherboards are still very much on the market, while DDR4 is still on sale.
However, the AM5 platform launched in 2022 is well underway, and unlike its beginnings, more affordable solutions are available. But you’ll have to pay a little extra. On the other hand, it’s also the assurance of having a platform that will stand the test of time. It supports PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory, unlike the AM4. We can also imagine that, even if the AM6 arrives, the AM5 will continue to receive numerous processors despite the arrival of a new socket.
In any case, this 5600F seems to be aimed more at OEMs and system integrators. It remains to be seen whether we’ll see it in stock or not, and if so, at what price.
