The launch of AMD’s RX 9000 series has been chaotic, to say the least. We were expecting to see the cards at CES, but nothing came of it. After that, we heard nothing more until David McAfee announced on X that the cards would be launched in March. In short, the hype was very badly managed by AMD, leading to some frustration… A Cyberpunk scenario in the end. In any case, it looks like there’s light at the end of the tunnel (or maybe not), with B&H Photo Video suggesting a launch date of 23 March 2025!
RX 9000 Series, launch on 23 March?
The New York shop’s website displays pre-order dates of 23 March, which are still open to debate. Indeed, 23/03 falls on a Sunday, which is unusual for a hardware launch. It remains to be seen whether this is a genuine date or a placeholder, as is all too often the case with products that are not yet on the market.
On this subject, the shop lists several references, including ASUS cards. Among them are the Prime and TUF series, available as the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. In itself, nothing extraordinary. It should also be remembered that the TUF version was revealed in an unboxing video, which has since been removed.
In short, there are several reasons why the launch of AMD’s cards is dragging on like this, but it seems that the Reds want to give themselves time to polish their software. With these RX 9000 Series, the company will launch the AI-powered FSR4, and this little delay is allowing the Reds to get it adopted by a larger number of video games on the one hand. On the other hand, this will enable retailers to build up large stocks of cards, thus avoiding the setbacks that NVIDIA will encounter with its RTX 50s , with some shops currently only having around ten RTX 5090s in stock.
