For its part, AMD is launching its Strix Halo APUs, models that feature truly impressive graphics. Indeed, depending on tests and conditions, we find an iGPU capable of rivaling RTX 4070Ms and outperforming RTX 4060Ms in gaming. Remember that this is a processor-integrated graphics chip, not even a dedicated GPU like the mobile RTX 4000s!

RX 8060S: theiGPU that rivals the RTX 4070M in some cases!

To measure the chip’s performance, we’ll have to look at the readings taken on laptops by Notebookcheck. For example, on 3DMark Time Spy, AMD’s iGPU delivers a solid performance of 10,224 pts. This puts it on a par with the RTX 4070M in the ROG Zephyrus G14, which scores 10,392 pts, and ahead of the RTX 4070M in the Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 with 10,182 pts. It has to be said that, in these cases, the RTX 40s are configured for 65W. It has to be said that these laptops are ultra-portable and, inevitably, cooling capacities are limited.

As for Steel Nomad, nothing could be further from the truth. The performance of the little RX 8060S falls well behind the 4070M. However, it easily outstrips competing iGPUs such as Intel’s Arc 140V and AMD’s previous-generation RX890M.

In games, we find a very capable iGPU. On an average of eight games, AMD’s iGPU outperforms Schenker Key 14’s RTX 4060M by 6%. The latter is on a par with the RX 7600M XT on a Minisforum MS-A1 mini-PC, and falls between 6% and 8% behind the RTX 4070M, depending on the laptop.

In short, AMD offers us a successful iGPU. However, it should be pointed out that this is a substantial iGPU, with 2560 stream processors, 160 TMUs and 32 ROPs. In fact, it’s a superior configuration to the brand’s RX 7600. The CPU is a 16c/32t configuration based on Zen 5 cores, turbocharged to 5.1 GHz with 80 MB (L2 L3) of cache. In short, a formidable combo that we’d love to see extended to more sauces.
