There’s always something going on in the hardware world. This time, we learn that some smart guys are making money by selling RTX 4080M and RTX 4090M adapted as PCIe cards!

RTX 4090M and RTX 4080M, laptop versions adapted to PCIe format!

RTX 4090M

Naturally, this little business takes place in a part of the world we know well from our articles: China. There, retailers specialize in reselling mobile GPUs adapted to PCIe format. In our case, this concerns the RTX 4080M and RTX 4090M, the largest GPUs for laptop format.

Indeed, a mobile 4090 boasts some interesting features for a laptop PC , as it features a 9728 cuda core AD103 and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. As for the 4080M, we’re at 7424 cuda core and 12 GB GDDR6. Admittedly, the specifications are respectively 40% and 24% lower than their desktop counterparts, but performance is decent. For a 4080M, performance is between the 4070 and 4070 Ti desktop models all the same!

Expect to pay €1,760 for the 4090M

One of the advantages of this type of product: more than decent performance at an affordable price. The 4080M sells for between 3,000 and 4,000 yuan, or between $420 and $560! The other advantage is controlled power consumption/heating, thanks to the low TGP of the mobile versions, while the heatsink is, de facto, less imposing (dual fans).

However, these are unofficial NVIDIA products. As a result, you can say goodbye to official driver support with this type of product. To take advantage of it, you’ll have to use either modded drivers or those offered by the reseller.
