RTX 4080: towards a 420W GPU? A future energy crisis in sight?
For the time being, the rumor comes from Kopite7kimi who seems to be 99% sure of what he says. In any case, with this new generation, we can count for sure on an increase in consumption and heating. For the RTX 4090, the TGP could already exceed 600W. As for the 4080, the situation is far from being as catastrophic as we would be at 420W. However, compared to an RTX 3080, this already represents an increase of 100W.
Regarding the RTX 4060, same observation with an increase of 50W compared to the previous generation. The TGP would be 220W.
In short, for this future generation, if NVIDIA manages to satisfy the demand for cards, it is especially the consumption part that scares us. In this period of inflation, it is difficult to predict what the weight of these new cards will be on our EDF bill.
