Reality Pro: Apple very close to launch its VR / AR headset

The Apple VR headset, which has been the subject of many rumors for several months, could be launched for spring this year according to several independent sources. In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman understands that Apple has decided to launch the mixed reality headset before the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this year. While the hype around the metaverse and other virtual reality concepts has died down a bit, Apple’s ambition with this headset is to invite itself into a new market. For the Apple brand, its headset could reach users in the industrial, office, entertainment and video game sectors. Sectors that Apple could thus make captive with a complete ecosystem as it has done with its iPhone.

Regarding the technology behind this headset, at the moment we don’t have much. However, it could be that Apple will use two 4K displays, one per eye for 8K definition. The screens will be provided by Sony and will be Micro OLED panels for more finesse and a field of vision announced at 120 degrees. For wearers of glasses with corrective lenses, it would be possible to add glasses via a magnetic system.

The headset should run xrOS even if until now the name RealityOS has been regularly used. Finally, two particularities about this launch: first of all (but is it a surprise), the Apple headset could have an ultra premium positioning (above 3000$). Finally, if the announcement is made in the spring, deliveries could only begin in the fall of 2023… But here again, things can change.
