Paulo Gomes, who we already told you about when modding an RTX 3070 is at it again. Indeed, the Brazilian videographer now attacks an RX 5600 XT by doubling its memory capacity. The card, after manipulation, goes from 6 GB of VRAM to 12 GB!

This time, the modder attacks the RX 5600 XT from AMD, in a customized version by PowerColor. Of course, the first thing to do is to desolder the original memory chips from the card. Once done, the team was able to solder higher capacity chips: 2 GB, with higher frequencies as well: 16 Gbps instead of 14 Gbps.

If the modifications went well, it was still necessary to make sure that the new capacity was well recognized by the card, which was not the case. To achieve this, the bios had to be modified via a hexadecimal editor. Yes, no bios for a 12 GB card were available.

Anyway, after all these adventures, the card is back on its feet and ready to work… And we can say that it runs quite well since the operation allows doubling the scores of the card on Unigine Superposition. The score goes from 191 pts in its original configuration to 412 with the 12 GB of VRAM. It should be noted that a resolution of 10240×4320 was used during the benchmark. No doubt that the card will be more comfortable playing The Last of Us Part 1.

Of course, it goes without saying that a minimum of knowledge and tools are required to make such modifications.
