Overclocking Alder Lake processors?

0

As you can imagine, we are on the lookout for the slightest information regarding the overclocking of the next Intel Alder Lake processors. Indeed, if you are a hardware fan , you know that the i9-12900K(F) will have 16 cores and 24 threads . But beware, the 16 cores are actually divided into 8C + 8c. There are the 8 cores (P-core also called Golden Cove) and the 8 cores (E-core also called Gracemont). These have different roles. The first are intended to perform tasks requiring computing power and the second for what is more similar to office automation, to put it simply. The question we ask ourselves is: “Will we be able to overclock all the cores or just the P-core? A first answer may come from a tweet posted this morning.

The author of this tweet indicates that he was able to overclock the 8 P-core to 5.2 GHz but that the 8 E-core remained at 3.7 GHz. So we would not have the possibility to act on these 8 cores, which would be a shame. Imagine the gain in performance if the 16 cores were to go to 5.2 GHz. Well, let’s also note that the processor already reaches 330 watts when overclocked.

But, thanks to our colleague David’s question and Videocardz’s answer, it seems that there might be a little overclocking margin on these E-cores. In short, nothing definite yet and we will be eager to answer this question about overclocking when the Alder Lake processors are launched!
