Here is an unexpected announcement: Nvidia presents today three new graphics cards, the RTX 2050 and the MX 570/550.

Nvidia GPUs in Ampere and Turing?

To everyone’s surprise, Nvidia just announced today three new graphics cards for laptops, namely the RTX 2050, MX 570 and MX 550.

Let’s start with the most “interesting” GPU, the RTX 2050. This is an entry-level graphics card based not on the Turing architecture as the name might indicate, but shares the same chip as the RTX 3050/Ti namely the Ampere-based GA107.

An RTX 2050 in laptops?

The characteristics of the RTX 2050 are almost identical to the RTX 3050, with 2048 cuda core and 4GB of GDDR6 but with a memory bus limited to 64 bit instead of 128. This configuration results in a reduction of the bandwidth to only 112 GB/s, the TGP is also reduced, between 30 and 45W against 35 and 80 for the 3050.

Less surprising, we have the MX 570 and MX 550 based respectively on GA107 (Ampere) and TU117(Turing, not Ampere as leaked a few days ago). No characteristics are given for these 2 GPUs, not even RTX or DLSS support.

The 3 graphics cards announced today will hit the market in spring 2022 on laptops.
