China has its own GPU manufacturers , with companies such as Moore Thread and MetaX. If these companies are able to design GPUs and have them produced locally, they also need financing. This is why the companies are considering an IPO on the stock market. It has to be said that since the latest tightening of US sanctions, their products are enjoying renewed interest.
Moore Thread and MetaX soon to go public?
Both companies are looking for financing, and intend to raise it on the markets. In fact, we’ve just learned that the administrative side of the process has been completed, and that the necessary documents for the IPO have been filed. The aim here is to raise no less than 12 billion yuan ($1.65 billion) to continue growing on the Chinese domestic market. As you know, the USA and China are not on the best of terms, the former preventing the latter from gaining access to its technologies. Political and geopolitical considerations aside, this forces China to adapt, and it is banking on local production. The question now is whether the Middle Kingdom will succeed in gaining autonomy in this sector. For the moment, the country has high-performance solutions, even in the AI sector, thanks in particular to Huawei and its Ascend chips, which are used to power DeepSeek. In the consumer sector, it’s not quite there yet, as Moore Threads with its cards is unable to compete with current graphics solutions from AMD and NVIDIA. Nevertheless, with funding and a bit of time, there are ways of making something convincing.
