The next Meteor Lake processors are due to arrive on several notebooks in December this year. In addition to the major change in design we mentioned here, these processors are expected to feature a major upgrade of their integrated graphics to a solution based on the Alchemist architecture. This development was clearly eagerly awaited, given the lacklustre performance delivered by existing UHD and Iris graphics chips. And just as well, the first tests of Intel’s Meteor Lake iGPU have leaked out, and they look promising.
meteor Lake iGPUs: on a par with AMD or better?
Performance was measured on an upcoming MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo laptop. This specific notebook is equipped with the Core Ultra 7 155H processor, offering 16 cores, 22 threads, 24 MB L3 cache and a clock boost to 4.8 GHz. The graphics section features an Arc Graphics solution with 128 EU or 1024 ALUs clocked at up to 2250 MHz. This version boasts a TDP of 28W, which might indicate that the 45W Core Ultra 9s offer superior performance.
In terms of performance, the Intel Arc Integrated GPU scored 27,249 points in the Geekbench 5 OpenCL tests. This puts it on a par with the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU found in the latest AMD Phoenix APUs. If we were to compare this result with a card used on a desktop PC, we’re in the same ballpark as a GTX 1060… But please note that no optimization or finalized drivers were used for these tests. Logically, this score should be able to improve.
