Intel recommends 4-spring connectors for the 12VHPWR

Intel, which has recently entered (again) the dedicated graphics card market, has a little comment about the 12VHPWR connector. As a reminder, this is the new connector for powering graphics cards. Moreover, this connector is massively used by NVIDIA for its RTX 40. In any case, Intel recommends a certain type of contactor rather than another!

12VHPWR : Intel recommends the NTK model !

The world of the 12VHPWR adapter is very small since NVIDIA is supplied by two manufacturers: NTK and Astron. However, if the companies respect a certain specification, obviously they are free to use the contactor they want. Thus, at Astron, we have a three dimple contactor while NTK uses a four spring model.

According to Intel, NTK’s is ultimately the most secure since it offers an increased contact area on the spindle. From an electrical point of view, a larger contact area also reduces the heating of the connector. This is crucial, especially in case of a bad connection. But it also improves durability while better resisting the forces of cable bending.

Finally, for those who don’t see why Intel is talking about this, you should know that this cable is part of the ATX 3.0 standard… And that this standard is pushed by *drum roll*… Intel !
