For a few years now, AMD has been leading the way in terms of processor sales in most countries. Things are starting to change since the arrival of Alder Lake and Intel is getting back on track.
I9-12900K, i5-12600K, i7-12700K in the list of the 10 best-selling processors in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany
Several large distributors regularly give the list of their best sellers. If we are to look at the numbers in the US, the Top 3 at reseller Newegg consists of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5800X and Core i7-12700K, with the Core i9-12900K in 7th place and the Core i5-12600K in 8th. At Bestbuy, the Top 6 best-selling CPUs are all Intel, with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X in 7th place. If we go a little closer to our British friends, the Core i9-12900K is at the 2nd place of the best sellers, surrounded by AMD CPUs. At Scan, on the other hand, we have to go down to places 6, 7 and 8 to find Intel.
But once again, we have the most accurate data from Mindfactory in Germany. If AMD continues to dominate the ranking it is only with the cheapest references. The Core i7-12700K is the first Intel 12th generation processor listed with 170 units sold and we notice that a Core i5-11400F sold 240 units, taking advantage of its aggressive price. The sales leaders remain the Ryzen 5 5600X/G and Ryzen 7 5800X, respectively 440/460/450 units.
AMD in trouble with prices and availability
But the situation should get even better for Intel in the coming weeks. Indeed, AMD is dropping some ground obviously in relation with the excellent reception received by Alder Lake but also ( and especially ) because the red CPUs seem to suffer from a very difficult availability. The entry level is particularly affected. However, this is what carries the volume at Mindfactory in particular. Finally, the price positioning of “stars” like the 5600X is also problematic. The latter is facing the 12400F with a price well above. A priori AMD could make some price adjustments on the second part of February… On the other hand for the stock, nothing good is announced.
