On October 27th, Intel launched its new generation of processors named Alder Lake with the K models, from i5-12600K to i9-12900K. Today, at CES 2022, we see the launch of the rest of the desktop and mobile range with more than 50 new CPUs, 28 for laptops and 22 for desktops.
Intel Core 12900HK: faster than AMD and Apple?
It is during this CES 2022 that Intel has just announced its new mobile processors, with 3 distinct ranges: H-series (Processor Base Power of 45W), P-series (PBP of 28W) and U-series (PBP of 9W and 15W) allowing to cover all the segments of laptop, from the ultraportable thin and light, to the laptop ” Enthusiast ” for the video game.
Alder Lake-H uses a hybrid architecture with up to 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores) accompanied by support for several memories, such as DDR4-3200, DDR5-4800, LPDDR5-5200 and LPDDR4x-4267. The connectivity side is not forgotten either, with Wi-Fi 6E and Thunberdolt 4, PCIe 4.0 is also present with 8 lines for a DGPU and 2×4 lines for 2 SSDs.
With Alder Lake-H and its flagship model namely the i9-12900HK, Intel poses as having the fastest processor on the market in terms of performance per watt (based on SPECint 2017), surpassing the i9-11980HK and R9 5900HX but also Apple’s M1 Max in terms of performance using the same number of watts, but can expand to more than 75W and thus offer up to 50% more performance compared to the other three processors.
The i9-12900HK allows itself to be the best mobile processor for video games, with up to 28% on average, performance compared to the i9-11980HK and R9-5900HX, on a panel of 19 games tested in 1080p and high graphics on laptops with identical configurations.
Content creators will not be outdone, with the i9-12900HK offering +44% performance on Premiere Pro and +10% on Lightroom compared to the i9-11980HK or +14% and +9% on Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit. At the same time, the processor also allows itself to beat the competition consisting of the R9-5900HX and M1 Pro/Max.
More than 100 different laptop designs will already be available, ranging from ultraportables to the ” Halo Enthusiast” laptop , making Alder Lake-H one of Intel’s fastest launches.
