In Japan, the RAM market is easing off, with price cuts observed on RAM. Over there, for example, you can get a 64 GB RAM kit for less than €500. That’s a price cut of 10%. Other kits with more modest capacities show even greater reductions, up to 20%. Is this the start of a general price drop, or the result of instability in a volatile market?

Japan: RAM prices ease!

64 GB kits for under €500?

Japon 64 Go 430 €

Broadly speaking, compared with the last four months, some memory kits are showing their lowest prices ever. Of course, bills are still very high compared with last year, but prices are coming down.

For example, a 2×32 GB 4800 MT/s kit can be had for less than 80,000 yen, or around €428. By contrast, in France, a kit with the same capacity costs €600 at the cheapest Top Achat, compared with over €800 at GrosBill. In any case, in Japan, this represents a price drop of around 21.8% compared with the previous month!

After that, less than 80,000 yen is for one particular kit. Otherwise, depending on the model and frequency, prices range from 88,000 yen to 164,000 yen, i.e. from €470 to €881.

32 GB kits are also on offer, with 2×16 GB sets selling for under 50,000 yen, or around €270. Once again, the price is attractive (given the situation), representing a reduction of around 20%. Note that this type of configuration was previously available at 60,000 yen, or over €320.

Finally, high-frequency kits follow this trend. The price of a Kingston Fury DDR5 32 GB 7200 MT/s kit has been reduced to 58,980 yen (approx. €315). Other 32 and 48 GB kits are also down by around 10%.

Still a volatile market!

The problem is that we’re in a volatile market, where prices are still yo-yoing. The problem is that we can’t really anticipate rises and falls and plan purchases. For the moment, in Japan, the situation seems to be easing, but the price can go up again. In the space of a few days, declines can be completely reversed!
