Gradually, China seems to be catching up in the CPU sector. In fact, the Hygon C86 seems to be convincing enough to have been selected for a pre-assembled gaming machine. Indeed, its performance is said to be on a par with Intel’s Core i7 13700 and 14700. Quite a show of strength!
Hygon C86: the Chinese CPU that rivals Core i7 13700/14700 selected for a gaming machine!
For the record, the PC in question was unveiled at a recent tournament held in China. In addition to its relatively classic design, with a glass front and side panel, the machine’s choice of CPU was surprising. Where we’re used to seeing PCs equipped with AMD or Intel CPUs, they’ve chosen a completely different reference: a Hygon C86.
Broadly speaking, this is an x86-compatible CPU. So there should be no compatibility problems with Windows systems, software or games. It also supports DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0. Otherwise, this processor adopts a chiplet design, with two chips each containing 8 cores and 16 MB of L3 cache. Of course, hyperthreading is also part of the program, with this processor offering 32 threads.
In terms of performance, on SPEC CPU2006, the Chinese processor is aggressively positioned on a par with Intel’s Core i7 range. In the Spec06 MTint test, it takes first place, while coming second in MTfp and last in STint and STfp. On V-Ray, the Chinese processor came in between the i7 13700 and 14700K, although closer to the former. Finally, in game mode, the machine was seen running Black Myth: Wukong smoothly, but with no indication of the graphics card used or the framerate achieved.
