Jon Peddie Research publishes a new report on the health of the CPU/GPU market. The figures are down on Q4 2023, but still higher than for the same period in 2023!
GPU market: shipments down in Q1 2024!
JPR’s report shows that a total of 70 million graphics cards were shipped in the first quarter of 2024. This represents a significant increase (33%) on the first quarter of 2023, which was particularly poor. Indeed, fewer than 60 million GPUs were shipped at that time. However, compared with Q4 2024, we have a decline of 10%.
In detail, the market shares of the various players (Intel, NVIDIA and AMD) remain stable overall. Although AMD was the only player to lose ground, losing 0.7% share, while Intel gained 0.3% and NVIDIA 0.4%.
In terms of total GPU shipments, AMD’s share fell by 13.6%, compared with 9.6% for Intel and 7.7% for NVIDIA. Of course, this applies not just to the gaming card sector, but to the sector as a whole.
Nevertheless, the 12.4% decline in Q1 2024 (vs. Q4 2023) is still higher than the ten-year average of 11% over the same period. It remains to be seen what the figures will be for the rest of the year, as AMD and NVIDIA work on their new architecture. On the other hand, the mobile sector should also grow, with AI PCs promoted by Microsoft in particular.
