Good surprise on the price of the X670? Not sure…

All prices are going up, as you have all noticed. The arrival of the next generations of CPUs and GPUs makes us fear the worst, considering the generalization of DDR5, the drop of the Euro… However, we could still have a good surprise from AMD with its high-end motherboards featuring the X670 chipset.

X670

Indeed, for its design, the X670 is made of two AMD Promontory 21 chips . If we want to simplify, the Promontory 21 chip is neither more nor less than the B650 chipset. By combining two AMD B650 / Promontory 21 chips on its X670 to double the system connectivity, AMD has chosen a less expensive solution than the previous X570. The chipset itself costs less. But beware, if the cost of the chipset greatly conditions the cost of the motherboard, we could have some bad surprises. The first one could come from the fact that the X670 will give access to thePCI-Express 5.0 interface , which should be felt on the price. The other concern could be the VRMs. These will have to be oversized to handle the higher TDPs of the new Ryzen family. Finally, the very bad evolution of the exchange rate should not make things any better. So if many are considering a lighter access price on Zen 4, it might not be on the side of the X670 but possibly the B650, with a single Promontory 21 and “only” PCIe 4.0. For the X670, the first price leaks suggest that we could find the cards between 250 and 500€…
