Galax announces HOF Extreme 50S SSDs with 12.4 GB/s data transfer rate

Galax has announced a new PCIe 5.0 SSD, the HOF Extreme 50S. Yes, it looks close to the Extreme 50, but the latter pushes data rates a little further. We’re now talking about 12.4 GB/s read speeds, versus 10 GB/s for the non-S.

With this new version, the brand’s design remains largely unchanged, with a predominantly white casing with grey and black accents. This model features an active heatsink, with a tiny fan positioned on top. Its role is to cool the unit to prevent thermal throttling.

Otherwise, internally, we have the same Phison PS5026-E26 memory controller as the non-S, as well as the same type of NAND memory. We’re therefore entitled to 232-layer memory coupled with a DRAM cache in LPDDR4/DDR4.

However, everything has been boosted to offer higher data rates. At maximum, this 50S version is capable of reading at 12.4 GB/s and writing at 11.8 GB/s. To give you an idea, the Extreme 50’s sequential data rates are 10 GB/s read and 9.5 GB/s write. As for random performance, it reaches 1500,000 IOPS in read/write mode.

For the moment, we have no idea of the selling price, we only know that it will arrive soon.
