At the moment, it’s a bit of a mess in Ukraine since the beginning of the hostilities launched by V. Putin. The price of gas and oil are yo-yoing and as the price of electricity is indexed to that of gas… A solution must be found quickly to reduce the country’s energy pressure. To do this, France decided to ban the RTX 3090 Ti from the market.

Energy pressure: we ban the RTX 3090 Ti to relieve our nuclear reactors!

RTX 3090 Ti

So, to reduce the pressure, the government has decided to ban the RTX 3090 Ti, the latest big GPU from NVIDIA. On paper, the card consumes a lot of power since we find 480W TGP, enough to swallow large amounts of watts. Moreover, this power consumed will be very useful elsewhere.

Moreover, we learn that other cards are in the line of fire of the government. Indeed, the RTX 3090 and RX 6900 XT of AMD are also concerned. As a reminder, an RTX 3090 is about 400W of consumption against a little over 300W for the 6900 XT. Especially since some people are involved in mining.

For now, it seems that the 3090 Ti will be withdrawn from the market on June 1st. The others will follow the month after.

Disclaimer: Did we scare you? Good, that was the goal. Now, let’s keep our fingers crossed that an EELV member of parliament doesn’t come along.
