DDR4 DDR5 adapter: Asus tinkers with a RAM adapter!

A small novelty signed Asus starts to make talk about it. Indeed, photos and videos are appearing on the net showing us a DDR4 to DDR5 adapter. Thanks to this, it will be possible to use old generation RAM on a Z690 platform in DDR5. It remains to be seen when and at what price it will be released, however, given the current situation, this may also be a solution to get around the price and shortage of DDR5!

DDR4 DDR5 adapter: the little invention signed Asus!

Asus ROG DDR4 DDR5As you can see, this adapter acts as an interface between the DDR5 slot on the motherboard and the DDR4 RAM. However, if this type of solution works, on the one hand, it is thanks to the Alder Lake-S CPU. As a reminder, the twelfth generation of Intel Core i includes DDR4 and 5 memory controllers. On the other hand, you don’t want to confuse the motherboard, which expects DDR5, by putting DDR4 on it. For this, we imagine that it happens on the bios side.

Otherwise, the adapter in question is not only a simple converter, we can also distinguish a power supply part on it. This is normal since, as a reminder, DDR5 has its own circuit unlike DDR4. This is what has been done here: to be able to power the memory.

Unfortunately, this solution does not only come with advantages since this adapter is really high. The PCB itself is already higher than the Triden Z Royal on it. This means that there are space constraints, especially for the heatsink if it is a cooling unit.

In any case, we will have to wait before knowing more about this, especially in terms of price and availability. On the other hand, this may be an option to consider if you want to avoid the price and shortage of DDR5.
