PC assembler CyberPower PC has no choice but to raise the price of its machines. The reason? The skyrocketing cost of memory. In fact, the integrator says it can no longer absorb RAM costs, which is forcing it to increase its invoices!
CyberPower PC: price hike scheduled for December 7!
PC assemblers are under pressure, as recent price increases for RAM cannot be ignored. Indeed, we’re not talking about small, reasonable increases, but rather outrageous ones of 172%, then 307%, and now we’re talking about costs of up to 500%, depending on the type of chip used, we imagine. In any case, this represents too significant an increase, and if companies were making efforts to absorb these costs in order to remain competitive, it’s no longer possible.
Just think: in the space of a few months, we’ve gone from a DDR5 6000 MT/s kit selling for €100 to over €200, with some going for €300 or even €400. The same goes for 64 GB kits, with bills soaring to €600 or more. When you consider that a RAM kit now costs as much as a good graphics card, it’s hard not to raise the price.
In the meantime, the reasons are well known: the AI market is responsible for this situation. Demand is so strong for AI cards that DRAM manufacturers prefer to switch production lines from DDR5 to HBM. Mechanically, as DDR5 supply dwindles, prices rise – and disproportionately so in this case. Now, can we expect a drop in consumption on the consumer market? Probably, but it remains to be seen in what proportions.
In any case, it’s not impossible that our French assemblers will also raise prices, precisely because they can no longer absorb these unreasonable increases. To be continued.
