RAM, particularly DDR5, has become scarce and, above all, very expensive. As a result, we have heard reports of scams, while thefts by unscrupulous carriers have also been reported. To prevent fraud, including on the second-hand market, Corsair is updating the packaging of its kits!

Sealed packaging to prevent scams involving Corsair RAM!

With its new packaging, Corsair is replacing the traditional cardboard box with sealed plastic packaging that tears after opening. The advantage of this new packaging is that you can immediately see the RAM reference you are receiving. It also protects users and distributors from fraudulent returns. This is a fairly common practice that particularly affects large retailers. Amazon, for example, where a compliant product is replaced with a defective or even fraudulent product in the packaging of the new product, which is then returned under false pretences. The return is accepted, the scammer is refunded, and the fake product goes back into distribution until it reaches another customer. This will no longer be possible, as any opening will be immediately visible.

Furthermore, let’s not forget that some people pass off Corsair lighting kits as real memory when returning them. It is true that the resemblance to legitimate memory is striking, as long as you don’t look at the pins on the modules. But when you’re an Amazon employee and you have to process a large number of returns on time, you don’t necessarily pay attention to that.

For now, this new packaging mainly concerns Vengeance and Vengeance RGB memory kits with two sticks. But we imagine that Corsair will gradually extend it to its entire memory range. The old packaging has an additional seal to ensure that the package has not been opened.

Perhaps other manufacturers will even take inspiration from this packaging to protect their memory kits. XPG, in particular, has been the victim of fraudulent returns.
