From Colorful, we learn that the brand may soon be restocking DDR3 motherboards equipped with an old H81 chipset. Of course, this news should be taken with a grain of salt, but we see it more as a measure to satisfy certain markets than to bring the technology back to life. What’s more, restocking would be limited.
DDR3 motherboards back in stock at Colorful?
To satisfy certain markets!
It’s clear that Colorful isn’t going to go all-in on the H81 chipset and DDR3. On the other hand, certain markets or market sectors may be interested in these motherboards. We’re thinking of certain businesses that operate machines off-network to manage local tasks, or even some older family PCs used solely for office work. In such conditions, there’s no need to upgrade to DDR4/DDR5, given the usage. So, if the motherboard dies, we find replacement components.
In fact, we need look no further, as the H81 is now 13 years old, as well as being an entry-level chipset. As a reminder, it equipped LGA-1150 motherboards while hosting fourth-generation Intel processors. Here, the connectivity managed by this H81 is basic: a few SATA, one or two PCIe, one of which is x16, a few USB and that’s about it. But that’s more than enough to set up a small configuration.
A date for restocking?
For the moment, the precise date of this return to stock is not known and has not been specified. However, Channel Gate reports that the cards will arrive in early May. In the meantime, if the need arises, you’ll have to turn to the competition, of which there are still a few references here and there. As for the price, nothing has been said, but it will most probably be less than fifty euros/dollars. It should also be noted that this measure is aimed at the Asian market, as Colorful has very little presence in France.
