At CES,demo laptops are left for journalists to try out and gauge the performance of the CPUs. And according to several reviews, they’re solid. A Lenovo laptop equipped with a Core ultra X9 388H was quickly tested, while we were able to get a preview on Furmark and OCCT (we were among the media selected to test the laptop, without restrictions).

Panther Lake: games playable in 1080p and 1200p!

We were able to test the Core Ultra X9 388H in gaming on the same Lenovo Idea Pad Pro 5 laptop. We were able to get an idea of its performance on several games, with a focus on its Arc B390 iGPU. In all cases, we found a playable frame rate in 1080p or 1200p, all with decent graphics quality, but with XeSS active nonetheless. Broadly speaking, the results were as follows:

  • Cyberpunk 2077 ran at an average of over 80 FPS in 1080p, with high details and balanced XeSS.
  • F1 2025 averaged nearly 110 FPS in 1080p, high details with balanced XeSS.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 ran at an average of nearly 70 FPS in 1200p, high details with XeSS in quality mode.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages ran at just over 50 FPS in 1080p, high detail with balanced XeSS.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds ran at 35 FPS in 1200p, medium details with XeSS in balanced mode.
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ran at just over 57 FPS in 1080p, high detail with XeSS in quality mode.

As you can see, it runs well in games. Remember that the laptop is only equipped with a Panther Lake CPU,without a dedicated GPU. However, XeSS generated a few minor oddities, which were more noticeable in Cyberpunk. But that’s just a matter of the software maturing, nothing too serious.

Lenovo IdeaPad Lenovo

On the noise side, our team on site was able to test this famous Lenovo laptop for themselves. OCCT and Furmark were used to get an idea of its performance under heavy load. Under Furmark, we found that the graphics component consumed 33W, while the CPU consumed more than 80W. As for heat, the laptop kept the Core Ultra X9 at around 80°C, as can be seen above. Of course, depending on the chassis or cooling system, the impact of noise will vary. As for noise, even though we were in a small room with 5-6 people, the conditions were not ideal. However, in stress sequences such as those imposed, the ventilation must logically be audible. This was not the case despite the repetition of the OCCT sequences. Finally, another noteworthy point: no contact heating on the entire chassis, again with an intensive stress test repeated. It therefore seems that Panther Lake promises good things and we are eager to go further soon.
