The compact desktop computer market is seeing the arrival of a product designed specifically for artificial intelligence. ASUS has officially launched production of the Ascent QN10, billed as the world’s first mini PC to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite platform. This announcement marks a significant milestone for the Windows on Arm ecosystem, which is evolving from a development kit reserved for engineers to a device ready for the general public.

An Architecture Dedicated to Local Tasks
The standout feature of this model is its integrated neural processing unit (NPU), capable of delivering 80 TOPS of computing power. This capability is designed to perform AI tasks locally—such as natural language processing, image analysis, or workflow automation—without necessarily relying on a constant cloud connection. Unlike previous Windows on Arm devices, which were primarily used to optimize applications for the ARM architecture, the Ascent QN10 is aimed directly at end users with an anodized aluminum chassis, moving away from the plastic often associated with prototypes.
The technical specifications have been slightly adjusted from the initial information available. The processor is a Snapdragon X2 Elite featuring an 18-core Oryon CPU, paired with the Adreno X2-90 graphics chip. RAM capacity reaches up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x, while storage is available in 512 GB, 1 TB, or 2 TB configurations. Connectivity is enhanced by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, with the latter replacing the initially planned version 5.4.
Compact and Versatile
Despite its small volume of just 0.7 liters, the case does not sacrifice connectivity. On the front panel, there are two USB4 ports, two USB-A ports, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the back, the motherboard features an additional USB4 port, an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-A ports, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, and audio outputs. The case measures 13 × 13 × 3.81 cm and weighs 725 grams, making it one of the smallest desktop computers on the market while remaining fully functional.
Thermal management has been optimized to separate the airflow intended for the processor from that intended for the SSD. Cool air is drawn in on one side of the device and then split to be expelled separately on the other side, thus preventing critical components from overheating. The device also supports access to the Qualcomm AI Hub, offering more than 175 pre-optimized models and tools for deploying AI workloads.
While the performance and design look promising, the main question remains whether there is actual demand for an AI-focused mini PC running Windows on an ARM architecture. The Ascent QN10 represents an ambitious attempt by ASUS to set a new standard in the small desktop computer segment.
