Arrow Lake-S: towards a major reduction in power consumption?

As far as Intel processors are concerned, we are currently awaiting the launch of Raptor Lake Refresh. As a reminder, this series will bring only simple gains in CPU frequency… And an increase in the number of E-Cores on the 14700K side, if all goes well. If you’re looking for real novelties, you’ll have to look to Arrow Lake-S. What’s more, we can also expect lower power consumption!

Arrow Lake-S, towards a 43% reduction in power consumption?

Intel Core Ultra 9 1900K

Normally, this new generation of processors should bring a new socket, the LGA-1851, and new chipsets. However, what interests us here are the processors’ power consumption figures. The future Core Ultra 9 1900K will have PL1 and PL2 values of 125W and 177W respectively. Compared with our current CPUs, the TDP (PL1) remains unchanged at 125W. However, PL2 (commonly known as TDP Boost) is considerably reduced. Where a Core i9 13900K displays 253W at PL2, Arrow Lake-S should be around 177W. This represents a drastic reduction of 43%.

Going even further, PL4, which refers to peak power consumption, has also been significantly reduced. This drops from 420W at 13900K to 333W, a reduction of 26%. But this only lasts a few milliseconds.

It now remains to be seen whether these values only apply to a particular processor, an engineering sample, or whether these are the definitive characteristics of the Core Ultra 9 1900K… If so, that would be seriously good news. This would make the processor much less stressful, both for your cooling system and for your electricity bill.

As for the specifications of this Ultra 9 1900K, we expect it to share a similar configuration to the current 13900K. This would mean 8P16E and two Core SoCs. However, performance is set to increase, with early rumors suggesting 25% single core.
