In the business world, companies need two things: performance and stability. Remove one of the two factors and you’re done. That’s what’s happening with Intel at the moment, as the instability problems with the 13th and 14th generation Core i9s have done some serious damage. Some companies are switching from blue to red!
ModelFarm drops Intel, their CPUs will be AMD Ryzen 9 9950X!
Dylan Browne, Unreal Engine supervisor and Feature Film VFX expert at ModelFarm, says that they will be changing the CPUs in their machines. He currently reports a 50% failure rate for his Core i9-equipped computers! As a reminder, ModelFarm is not the only company affected by this problem, as it includes game server hosts and developers.
In any case, Dylan Browne seems to indicate that two brand new CPUs were immediately victims of instabilities. For other processors, the problem appeared over time. Another observation he made: ASUS ROG motherboards seem to be most often involved too. In addition, a reduction in the power consumption limit was also applied to the systems affected.
No matter what, these problems have seriously annoyed the ModelFarm pros, who are now opting for Ryzen 9 9950X. Here, the good single-core performances are highlighted… Not to mention their stability over time. After all, it’s hard to be productive with a machine that crashes every 30 seconds and on which you constantly have to restart rendering, not to mention the stress that goes with it!
As a reminder, blues have indicated that they have found the source of the problem and are preparing to launch a patch in mid-August. However, businesses can’t wait, especially since, as Tom’s Hardware points out, the affected processors need to be replaced. Clearly, the damage is irreversible.
