Apple M1 Max: above the RX 5700 XT?

0

An Apple M1 Max SoC has gone through the Geekbench 5.4.1 benchmarking software. The results observed concern the graphics performance. Before starting, the regulars here know the limits of GeekBench but we must also couple that with the fact that we do not know the version of the SoC tested, especially the number of GPU cores. Since the official announcement of Apple we know that the SoC Apple M1 Max has variations with a GPU part equipped with 16, 24 or 32 cores. There is no way to identify the version on this test. The tested SoC obtains a score of 68870 points, which means quite simply a tripling of graphics performance compared to the Apple M1 (21168 points).

To compare and get an idea, you have to stay under the Mac environment and therefore compare these scores with AMD graphics solutions, since in recent years Apple has only used graphics chips of this type. The graphics part of the tested M1 Max SoC manages to outperform the AMD Radeon VII (68100 points) or the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (68610 points). If we compare the TDP of these solutions, we understand the contribution of the M1 Max which also integrates a 10-core processor with a maximum TDP that would be about 60W while only the AMD GPU is already around 180W (TDP PL1). In the next few days, the first independent tests should allow us to objectively assess the new Apple SoCs.
