In a few hours, Apple will present a special event that it has the secret. On the program, probably the new MacBook Pro which should have new Apple Silicon SoC. We now know that they could be called ” M1 Pro ” and ” M1 Max “. The high-end version will offer a processor with up to 10 cores divided into 8 high-performance cores + 2 efficient cores. It is also possible that a high-end Mac Mini will benefit from the most muscular SoC.

Apple M1

The biggest difference between the two SoCs is in the graphics power. We could have a chip with 16 graphics cores and the higher-end one with 32 graphics cores . The rumors of a “revolution” for the graphics power are not new with as usual the storytelling of Apple on the subject. That’s why the power of the graphics part will probably be the main topic of this presentation. According to rumors, the graphics part of the most advanced SoC would offer performances comparable to those of a Nvidia RTX 3070 Mobile Another strong point is that Apple’s “GPU” would consume 40W when an RTX 3070 Mobile in Max-Q variant shows a power consumption of 93W. Apple has already surprised by the level of performance it could obtain with an ARM chip. Its ambition is to equip its entire range with its own chips to no longer depend on other suppliers for its CPUs and GPUs. Recently, however, many echoes confirm some turmoil within the Apple Silicon structure. Departures and lack of recruitment that could slow down these ambitions. The new SoCs, beyond their new names, will also be interesting to analyze in this last light.
