Gigabyte expands its range of SSDs with a new model. This time, the company is aiming for the top of the range with an Aorus Gen5 12000 model. Yes, we’re talking about an SSD with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface!

Aorus Gen5 12000: a PCIe 5.0 SSD!

Aorus Gen5 12000Gigabyte presents an M.2 SSD with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. When it comes to capacity, we have no choice: it’s 2TB or nothing! The SSD features 232-layer 3D TLC memory, a Phison PS5026-E26 memory controller and an LPDDR4 memory cache. On paper, this looks like it’s going to be a great performer in terms of throughput, and it is.

Officially, it’s a model with sequential data rates of 12.4 GB/s for reading and 11.8 GB/s for writing. Via a CrystalDiskMark reading, the brand managed to reach 12391 MB/s in reading against 11691 MB/s in writing. In terms of endurance, Gigabyte claims 1400 TBW.

As you know, PCIe SSDs can see their performance plummet if not properly cooled. That’s why Gigabyte offers its M.2 Thermal Guard XTREME heatsink, which consists of two heat pipes running through aluminum fins, 44.7 mm high. The solution promises to be effective, with a maximum temperature of 60°C after 300 seconds of testing.

For the moment, we don’t yet know the price, nor the launch date.
