Clearly, the launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 40 Super puts AMD in a tricky situation. Indeed, the cards in question come with more cuda core, sometimes more VRAM and therefore higher performance, all the more so as prices are not changing and, in some cases, are even falling. In short, the reds find themselves in a tricky situation, and they need to react!
AMD lowers the prices of its RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 GRE!
The reaction from the reds was swift, as the company readjusted the prices of two of their boards. The RX 7900 GRE and RX 7900 XT will see their prices drop.
Until now, in the US, the 7900 XT has been regularly priced at around $750, with occasional drops to under $700. Nevertheless, it’s this price sector that the company has chosen: $749, a reduction of $150 on its MSRP, the manufacturer’s recommended retail price. The aim of this readjustment is to anticipate the arrival of the RTX 4070 Ti Super, officially scheduled for $799.
As for the RX 7900 GRE, this model is seeing its price melt like snow in the sun. The card has gone from $649 to $549, an adjustment of $100. However, there’s one small subtlety concerning this model: its availability. Initially, the card was intended as a commemorative model for the Chinese market. Later, it arrived in Europe, but as a package for system integrators or as part of upgrade kits. However, even if the card rivals the RX 7800 XT (or even does a tad better), its sometimes very high price and limited availability mean that we won’t be opting for it.
Finally, AMD seeks to distinguish itself with the RX 7600 XT, a 16GB variant of the non-XT 7600. Only, the card is priced at $329 and has only 8GB more memory than the original card. It’s a card that’s unlikely to be a great success.
