For those who don’t remember, a few years ago AMD was on the verge of bankruptcy. Indeed, before the company launched its Ryzen 1000s, the brand’s survival depended solely on console hardware sales. Then came the first Ryzens, which saved the company from bankruptcy. Today, the brand is regaining market share, with a market share of almost 30%!

AMD: almost 30% market share!

According to data published by Mercury Research, the reds are on an excellent trajectory. In fact, in the third quarter of 2024, the company grew by 8.5 percentage points on the previous quarter, indicating strong growth. Even so, Intel still dominates the processor sector, whether for desktops, laptops or servers. However, as we can see, the trend is downward.

This quarter, for example, on the desktop, reds had a 28.7% market share, compared with 22.3% for the mobile sector. In the server world, progress is slower, but the brand now secures 24.2%. Remember that before the first quarter of 2017, just before the launch of Zen 1, the company weighed in at just 1.4% in this medium… In other words, nothing.

Of course, Intel is in a weak position, mainly because of the instabilities affecting its Raptor Lake CPUs, which have tarnished the brand’s reputation. In fact, a complaint is currently pending. What’s more, the Core Ultra 200s haven’t proved up to the task, especially in gaming, but we’re promised a patch to rectify the situation. Finally, while the Ryzen 9000s may also have disappointed on the gaming front, the company has made up for it with its Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which outperforms the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in gaming.
