Currently, despite some efforts by ASRock and Gigabyte AM5 motherboards, “cheap”, are not common place. However, things should change soon with the arrival of AMD’s A620 chipset. Already Polish and Slovakian shops are listing boards for less than €100!
Thanks to the A620, affordable AM5 motherboards are possible!
With this new entry-level chipset, AMD would purely and simply drop PCIe 5.0, making great savings. This will allow its partners to offer affordable AM5 boards. By the way, we had a first example of a card with an ASRock model that was leaked.

This time, via Polish and Slovakian shops, we learn a bit more about the price. Both retailers list a hypothetical MSI A620M-E, an entry-level model in micro-ATX format. In the Polish shop, the card is priced at PNL 440.98, while the Slovakian retailer’s price is €87.55. All that remains is to see what the LGA-1700 will offer (surely a labelling error).
In any case, this chipset is announced as being limited in functionality in order to lower the entry ticket for motherboards. Obviously, the boards that will be equipped with it could be limited in terms of CPU support. The latter should not exceed 100W. While this may seem scary at first glance, keep in mind that AMD recently launched its non-X Ryzen in 65W TDP. Thanks to the Ryzen 9 7900, it would be possible to mount a 12-core CPU on a card costing less than €100!
Finally, the launch should take place next week, to be continued.
