FINALLY, affordable AM5 motherboards should show up! Indeed, a motherboard signed ASRock is displayed at $125 in promotion ($140 without) at Newegg. Here is the B650M-HDV/M.2, a model that can potentially convince you to switch to Ryzen 7000!
B650M-HDV/M.2 finally an affordable motherboard in AM5… It was about time!
With its new card, the Taiwanese brand offers us a model in micro-ATX format. Moreover, we feel that sacrifices have been made, especially in terms of RAM with the presence of two DDR5 slots in 6400 MT/s. For its card, the brand opts for a B650 chipset, so we’ll skip the PCIe 5.0 and only find a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for the graphics card. In addition, we have M.2 in PCIe 5.0 x4 via the chipset.
Otherwise, the rest of the connectivity highlights four SATA III for storage. They will be complemented by an M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 as well as a last one for a WiFi module. Finally, for the PCIe, we find a port x1 in 3.0 and a port x4 in 4.0 via a x16 connector.
Concerning the power supply, we can count 8+2+1 power supply phases with Dr.MOS. In addition, the card has quite large heatsinks, it remains to be seen if they are effective.
On the back, the card offers DisplayPort and HDMI video outputs and a handy Flashback bios button. Otherwise, we have a USB-C 3.2 Gen1 followed by two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 and four USB-A 2.0s close the deal. For audio, a Realtek ALC897 chip while the network is entrusted to Realtek RTL8125BG “Dragon” in 2.5 Gbps.
For the price, we told you: $125 on sale, $140 without… With this card, AMD finally keeps its promise of affordable AM5 motherboards. I can’t wait for others to follow ASRock’s lead!
