Are partners unable to order RTX 5090s?

Right now, news about the RTX 5090 is popping up everywhere, and for good reason: rumors about the chip being discontinued just won’t go away. Indeed, between retailers delisting the cards and leakers talking about a production halt, there’s certainly a pattern emerging… Even though NVIDIA announced that the card would remain in production. This time, via Der8auer, we’re learning that NVIDIA’s partners are no longer able to place orders for the GB202.

RTX 5090: Can’t Order the GB202?

Partners with no RTX 5090s to offer?

According to Der8auer,the overclocker contacted NVIDIA to find out more about the matter. Nevertheless, the company responded that yes, the RTX 5090 is a GPU model still in production and that production has definitely not been halted. Currently, according to NVIDIA, the card is facing supply constraints, partly due to its VRAM, for which it is difficult to find inventory.

Furthermore, these claims appear to be contradicted by reports that an AIB reportedly told Der8auer it was no longer able to place orders for the chip and associated memory modules. However, the AIB has not received any official notification of a production halt.

At the same time, a manufacturer of graphics card heatsinks reports that its order book is struggling to fill up for the first quarter of 2027. Furthermore, for the second quarter of the year, no orders have reportedly been received yet.

RTX 5090s cannibalized by professional graphics cards—an increasingly credible hypothesis?

The theory that NVIDIA is reallocating its production of the GB202—the chip powering the 5090—to professional graphics cards is becoming increasingly plausible. In fact, the company recently launched its RTX Pro 5500, a new card based on the same chip. Consequently, we can assume that the growing number of professional models using this GPU is further straining the supply of the RTX 5090, even though NVIDIA hasn’t officially discontinued it. This is exactly what we told you last time when responding to the latest claims from “Moore’s Law is Dead.”
