While playing a bit of Battlefield 6, I noticed that CPU usage was abnormally high on my Ryzen 9 9800X3D, causing temperatures and CPU consumption to skyrocket.
Curious, I went looking for a solution and came across Minnidot ‘s YouTube video, which explains how to correct this CPU management problem, which has been present in several generations of Battlefield games.
According to Minnidot, with his Ryzen 9 9800X3D, the game consumes far too many CPU resources, causing slowdowns, jerks and general instability.
According to Minnidot, this problem has persisted for several Battlefield titles and has never been corrected by DICE.
The steps :
Open Notepad and add these lines (example for an 8-core processor):
Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 16
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
Thread.RenderThreadPriority 0
Another example: For a 16-core processor.
Thread.ProcessorCount 16
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 32
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
Thread.RenderThreadPriority 0
To adapt :
Thread.ProcessorCount and Thread.MaxProcessorCount to the number of cores in your CPU.
And for Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount, simply multiply the number of cores in your CPU by two, which will give you the value to set (corresponding to the number of threads).
- Then save the file in the game folder :
SteamLibrary > steamapps > common > Battlefield 6 - File name: user.cfg
Type: All files (not .txt) - Restart the game once the file has been added.
According to Minnidot:
- Before correction: CPU utilization 70-80
- After correction: CPU used at 30-40%, even 20-30% in menus
I didn’t notice any visible difference in terms of graphics quality or visual rendering.
For gamers with recent or older configurations, this simple fix reduces thermal stress on the CPU and makes gaming smoother for certain configurations…
A simple text file, a few lines of code and your CPU will thank you.
Battlefield 6 finally becomes playable for many, without turning your CPU into a radiator.
And for those of you who thought you’d have to change your cooling system, don’t worry, with this fix you should be back to normal temperatures.
